Advance Slide sets the transition timing, by specifying how long a slide stays in view before the transition to the
next slide begins. If no timing is selected, slides advance when the mouse is clicked. Select the slide that you want to set the timing. On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, under Advance Slide, do one of the following: To advance the slide manually: keep the On Mouse Click checkbox selected. To make the slide advance automatically: select the After check box, and then enter the number of minutes or seconds that you want. ‘The timer starts when the final animation or other effects on the slide finishes.set advance slide

How to Narrative recording works in PowerPoint 2016

If you are creating a self-running presentation, you might want to add a narration to emphasize the points you make. The Setup group under Slide Show tab allows you to run automatic presentations by using the Setup Slide dialogue, rehearse timings and includes voice narrations. A presentation can be previewed and rehearsed before presenting it. Rehearse New Timings can be used to set or change the timings.

To rehearse a slideshow:

  1. Select Rehearse Timings from the Set Up group, the slideshow starts and a Rehearsal dialog box appears at the top left corner of the screen that keeps track of the length of time each slide is displayed and sets the time accordingly.
  2. Click the slide or the arrow button to move to the next slide.

Setting Up a Slide Show

1) Go to Slide Show tab ⇒ Click on Set up Slide Show.
2) Click on Loop continuously until ‘Esc’ option. Click OK.

Start a slideshow

Once you have set up your slideshow, you can start the show at any time. As you run your slideshow, you can use the Slide Show tab. The Start Slide Show group has three commands: From Beginning, From Current Slide and Custom Slide Show. The first two are just indicators on where to start the presentation.

Custom Slide Show is where we create linked slide shows.
Click the Slide Show View button On the Status bar to start a slideshow quickly from the current slide.

Also, you can use F5 from the keyboard to view the presentation from the beginning and to run from currently
selected slide you can press Shift+F5

Controlling the Slide Show
While you view a slide show you are given several options more than just moving from slide to slide. An Arrow, Highlighter, and box appear at the bottom left corner of the slideshow. From where you can move to the next slide, previous slide, you can change the pointer; you are also provided a dropdown list from where you can move to any specific slide, last slide, previous slide, custom show, pause, end show etc.

Save a presentation as a PowerPoint show

Save your presentation, you click on the File Tab ⇒ choose Save As; you have options to save in the new default file format or in the PowerPoint 97-2003 format as well as other formats. If you select the first option, to save as a PowerPoint Presentation, the file extension will be .pptx.

VMhen you’re giving a professional slideshow presentation, you might not want your audience to see you start it from PowerPoint. Instead, you can save a presentation as a PowerPoint Show to open directly into Slide Show view. You can use the Save as a dialog box to save a presentation as a PowerPoint Show (.pps)
Closing PowerPoint Application
To close a presentation, choose Close from the File Tab or press Ctrl+W.

Open an existing PowerPoint presentation

You can open an existing presentation from within PowerPoint by using the Office button.
1) Click the File button, and then click Open.
2) If you want to open a specific file type, click the Files of type list arrow, and then click a file type.
3) If the file is located in another folder, click the Look in list arrow, and then navigate to the file.

you can assign a password and other security options so that only those who know the password can open a presentation or to protect the integrity of your presentation as it moves from person to person. At times, you will
want the information to be used but not changed; at other times, you will want only specific people to able to view the presentation. Setting a presentation as read-only is useful when you want a presentation such as a company-wide bulletin, to be distributed and read, but not changed. Password protection takes effect the next time you open the presentation.

Add Password to a Presentation

Open the presentation you want to protect. Click the Office button, and then click Save As. Click Tools, and then
click General Options. Type a password in the Password To Open box (encrypted) or the Password To Modify box (not encrypted). Click OK. Type your password again. Click OK. Click Save, and then click Yes to replace existing presentation.


Open a Presentation with Password Protection

Click the File button, click Open. navigate to a presentation with password protection, and then click Open. Click Read Only if you do not wish to modify the presentation, Or type the password in the Password dialog box. Click OK

How to Change or Remove the Password Protection

Click the Office button, click Open, navigate to a presentation with password protection, and then click Open.
Type the password in the Password dialog box, and then click OK. Click the Office button, click Save As, click Tools, and then click General Options. Select the contents in the Password To Modify box or the Password To Open box. Choose the option you want.

When you open PowerPoint 2013, you will see a list of recently opened presentations running down the left of the
workspace. Central to the workspace, however, is a collection of PowerPoint 2013 templates. TO select One
On which to base your new presentation, click on it.

Whenever you want to create a new presentation based on a template click the file tab ⇒ New.

Slide Master

Slide masters are designed to help you create great looking presentations in less time, without a lot of effort. In
MS•-Office PowerPoint 2013, you can create your own Slide Layouts to better fit the type of information you want
to present. For example, when you make a change on a slide master, the change affects every slide. If you place
your company logo, other artwork, the date and time, or slide number on the slide master, the element will appear on every slide.
Some most common uses of the slide master

Modify Backgrounds:

Slide Master View makes it easy to customize the background for all of your slides at the same time. For example, you could add a watermark or logo to every slide in your presentation, or modify the background graphics of an existing PowerPoint theme.

Rearrange Placeholders:

Rearrange Placeholders: If you find that you often rearrange the placeholders on each slide, you can save time by rearranging them in Slide Master View instead. When you adjust one of the layouts in Slide Master View,
all of the slides with that layout will change.

Customize Text Formatting:

Rather than changing the text color on every slide individually, you could use the slide master to change the text color on all slides at once.

Create Unique Slide Layouts:

If you want to create a presentation that looks distinct from the regular PowerPoint themes, you could use a Slide Master View to create your own layouts. Custom layouts can include your own background graphics, placeholders, and more.

Include an Object on Every Slide

  1. Click the View tab, and then click the Slide Master Button. Add the objects you want to a slide master or slide layout, and then modify its size and placement.
  2. Slide master includes an object on every slide. Click the Close Master View button on the Ribbon.

Insert a New Slide Master

  1. Click the View tab, and then click the Slide Master Button. Click the Insert Slide Master button. The new slide master appears at the bottom of the left pane with a push pin indicating the new master is preserved.
  2. Click the Close Master View button on the Ribbon. The new slide master and associated layouts
    appears in the Add Slide and Layout galleries at the bottom.

How to insert slide numbers

You can insert slide numbers into the text of your presentation. You can insert slide numbers on every slide or only
on a specific slide.

  1. GO to Insert tab. Click the Insert Slide Number button.
  2. The Slide Number appears on your slide.

Adding a Header and Footer When you use your presentation on the screen, you probably don’t want to use headers and footers, since they can be difficult to read. However, when you print a presentation, header and footers can be helpful, and PowerPoint gives you the ability to add them. Follow these steps to add a header and footer to a presentation.

  • Click the Insert tab, and then click the Header & Footer button. In the Header & Footer dialog box, click the Slide tabEnter or select the information you want to include on your slide. To not include a header and footer on the title slide, select the Don’t show on title slide check box.
  • Click Apply to apply your selection to the current slide (if available) or click apply to all to apply the selection to all slides.

Different Views

One can switch between the multiple views of MS- PowerPoint while creating or presenting. Each view offers
different capabilities. PowerPoint provides three different views: Normal, Slide Sorter, and Slide Show. You can switch from one view to another by clicking a view button located on the Status bar or by using the buttons
in the Presentation Views group on the View tab.

Normal View

The new normal view simultaneously displays the slide, outline and notes views in their own adjustable panes, so you can see everything at once.

Slide Sorter View:

The Slide Sorter View shows the slides in the order of appearance in the presentation. It shows each slide in their complete form. Here you can reorder slides, add transitions and set the timing for electronic presentations.

Notes pages View.

In the note page view, both notes and the slide can be seen together during a presentation.

SlideShow Views

This view runs the presentation starting from the current slide in the slide view or the selected slide in the
slide sorter view. Each slide fills the screen and advances according to the timings and the transition settings
of the presentation.
When you Create a PowerPoint presentation, you may not be interested to view all slides for all audiences•
You can ‘hide’ unwanted slides if required.
To hide a slide

  • Go to Slide Show TAB ⇒ Click the slide you want to hide and then choose Hide Slide command under Set Up group.
  • Now when you run the slideshow, the hidden slides will be skipped.
    **To unhide the hidden slides put off Hide Slide command under the Set-Up group.

Now’ How to delete a Slide.

To delete a slide from a presentation, do the following:
Right-click the slide that you want to delete, and then click Delete Slide. To select multiple sequential slides, click the first slide, and then hold down SHIFT while you click the last slide that you want to select. To select multiple inconsequential slides, hold down CTRL while you click each slide that you want to select.

Go to Insert Tab,  click the Picture button. Click on Look in the drop-down list and open the required folder that contains the image file to be inserted.
Finally, Click on the image files and Click on Insert button.
In PowerPoint 2013 you may insert online pictures.

Add a Quick style to a picture

Instead of changing individual attributes of a picture such as a shape, border, effects you can quickly add them all at once with the Picture Quick Style gallery. The Picture Quick Style gallery provides a variety of different formatting combinations. You can choose any style from the dropdown list under the Picture Styles group. If you select any style selecting the picture the preview is shown instantly on the screen, Therefore, it is very easy to apply the desired style without changing the individual attributes separately. If you like it, you can apply it.

Click the picture you want to change. Click the Format tab under Picture Tools.

Click the scroll up or down arrow, or click the More list arrow in the Picture Styles group to see additional styles. Click the style you want from the gallery to apply it to the selected picture.

Insert WordArt Text

  1. You can add visual pizzazz to your slides by adding a word Art object to your slides.
  2. Click the Insert tab. Click the WordArt button, and then click one Of the WordArt styles.
  3. A WordArt text box appears on the slide with type the required text.

How to use content slide layout

This type of slide layout allows you to easily add content such as clip art, charts, and tables to your presentation.

On the Home, ribbon either click on the New Slide button or change the current slide layout by clicking on the drop-down arrow beside Layout. There are a number of different Content slide layouts available for you to choose from. Content layouts have Charts, Clip Art, Pictures, Tables, Diagrams or Organization Charts, or Media Clips. To add a single picture or a piece of clip art, click on a simple layout such as Title and Content and the layout of your current slide will change to match your choice.

Adding a Background style

in PowerPoint, you can add a background style to your presentation. A background style is the combinations of theme colors for Slide backgrounds.

click the Design tab to change the background of the selected slide, Click  Background Styles button. Click the style what you want for the selected slides.

PowerPoint Drawing Tools 

PowerPoint Comes with a set of ready-made shapes you can use in your posters. The shapes Can be resized, rotated, flipped, colored, and Combined with other shapes to make more complex shapes. You can add text to AutoShapes by just clicking in the shape and typing. Many have an adjustment handle (a yellow diamond) you can use to change a special aspect of a shape.

  1. Click the Home or Insert tab. Click the Shapes button. Click the shape you want to draw.
  2. Go to the necessary slide and drag the pointer until you are getting the desired size.
